چکیده

Tanytrachelos ahynis (n.gen., n. sp.) is a lepidosaur from the Late Triassic Dan River Group (Newark Supergroup) of North Carolina and Virginia. The new reptile has gracile proportions similar to Tanystropheus (Middle Triassic) and is referred to the family Tanystropheidae of the suborder Prolacertiformes. Unlike Tanystropheus, Tanytrachelos has relatively short cervical vertebrae bearing splintlike ribs anteriorly and plowshare-s haped ribs posteriorly. The species is much smaller than Tanystropheus and has long straight ribs fused to the most distal dorsal vertebrae and proximal caudal vertebrae. The associated fish and nonmarine invertebrate fauna and flora suggest that the age of the Tanytrachelos-bearing horizon is Middle Keuper (Carnian of the Late Triassic).

Time calibration of Triassic/Jurassic microfloral turnover, eastern North America Reply

Evidence from sedimentation rates and stratigraphic ranges of palynomorph species indicate that van Veen is incorrect in inferring a condensed section at the Triassic/Jurassic (TR / J ) boundary in the Newark Supergroup. Van Veen bases his argument entirely on the ranges of palynomorph species in western Europe, but correlation of the European sections is equivocal, and the range data employed ...

The Late Triassic Tetrapod Ichnotaxon Apatopus Lineatus (bock 1952) and Its Distribution

The tetrapod ichnotaxon Apatopus lineatus is a relatively uncommon component of Late Triassic footprint assemblages. This might be related to the semi-aquatic lifestyle of the trackmakers, which were almost certainly phytosaurs and whose skeletons are known from coeval deposits with a Pangea-wide distribution. Originally described from the Passaic Formation of New Jersey, Apatopus lineatus has ...

The nonmarine Triassic–Jurassic boundary in the Newark Supergroup of eastern North America

For the last three decades, the position of the Triassic–Jurassic boundary (TJB) in nonmarine strata has largely been based on its palynostratigraphic placement just below the oldest basalts of the Central Atlantic magmatic province (CAMP) in the Newark Supergroup of eastern North America. This boundary, however, is demonstrably older than the TJB as it is defined in marine strata. Thus, the pa...

Diverse New Microvertebrate Assemblage from the Upper Triassic Cumnock Formation, Sanford Subbasin, North Carolina, USA

The Moncure microvertebrate locality in the Cumnock Formation, Sanford sub-basin, North Carolina, dramatically increases the known Late Triassic age vertebrate assemblage from the Deep River Basin. The ,50,000 recovered microvertebrate fossils include osteichthyans, amphibians, and numerous lepidosauromorph, archosauriform, and synapsid amniotes. Actinopterygian fossils consist of thousands of ...
